There was no corruption in cancelled hunting concessions – Kapata

FORMER touirism minister Jean Kapata says it is not possible that there could be corruption in the safari hunting tendering process that the new dawn government cancelled.
In April this year, tourism permanent secretary Evans Muhanga cancelled safari hunting concessions processed in 2020 and announced a readvertising of the same.
Despite concerns from several stakeholders, government has justified the process, with Muhanga himself saying he did not do anything illegal.
President Hakainde Hichilema has also justified the cancellation.
Adding her voice, Kapata expressed worry that everything done u der the PF administration was clothed with corruption by the current administration.
‘’Firs of all, there cannot be corruption because the Office of the Minister does not even take part, it’s far away from wherever the concessions are done. It was never at my level; it was at the level of the department of wildlife. They did it independently and awarded the people they thought were deserving,’’ she explained. ‘’Secondly, there are a lot of stakeholders involved in the safari hunting tendering process, including law enforcement agencies, so it is not possible that there was corruption on those concessions.’’
She affirmed that just like the current government, the PF administration made its decisions in the interest of the people.
‘’Each government makes decisions in the interest of the country. And so whatever decisions were made by the PF government were done purely in the interest of the nation itself. So, for people to come and start changing things I think that is not supposed to be the case,’’ said Kapata. ‘’Because when there’s a new government, the new government comes in; they’re just supposed to carry on from where the other government left. I don’t think that everything that we did as PF was wrong, no, I don’t think so. Some of the policies were very good for the people, and the results are there for the people to see.’’
